During the past 15 years we have helped to restore old bathrooms with authentic furnishing and we have designed new bathrooms in the style of the past, with original bathroom equipment or with reproductions.
Here we present the result of some of our recent projects:
Bathroom in an apartment in an old school building build in 1927 in the style of the ‘Amsterdams School’.
We aimed for a bathroom that would adapt to the style of the building and that would also reflect the former function of this building.
We chose for a simple but strong colour scheme where mustard yellow would dominate in combination with black. The tiling of the wall emphasizes the height of the ceiling. The wall tiles end with an simple decorative black metro tile that reflects the black border on the floor. The bath dates from the early twenties and was manufactured by Porcher. The used colours as well as the tiling pattern are inspired on the way once the hall of the school was decorated. Simple and functional.

For the new Intertop showroom Affaire d’Eau has realized two displays where the customer can see how a bathroom was furnished in the periode before running water was introduced.
The first display show an iron bath, decorated on the outside with a marble patern. The bath was filled with hot water coming from a boiler that was stoked on charcoal. The walls and the floor were tiled with antique tiles with decorative borders. In the second display you can see a toilet with a high hanging cistern and a sink that had container for the water and a tumble mechanism for the sink.

In a recently renovated dwelling in the centre of Amsterdam dating from the end of the nineteenth century Affaire d’Eau advised the owner how to furnish his bathroom.
Starting point was the terrazzo floor with nostalgic border. The owner chose an Art Deco bathtub with simple but very elegant clawfeet, originating from a concierge house in Paris. We combined it with an old sink from a school supported by a custom made frame with a nickel finish. The result was a functional, urban-style bathroom that reflects the nostalgic feelling of the building.

This bathroom was realized in an old house in the centre of Amsterdam.
The customer’s desire was to create a bathroom with the feeling of 1900.
The bathtub that was chosen and that dominates this tiny bathroom is an extra small model and dates from 1880. It is an original Torpedo model with claw feet that are decorated with acanthus motives. The tiles on the wall are new metro tiles but a border of old decorative tiles with a marble effect has been added. The floor tiles are also new but by using a border the effect is very nostalgic. Also with the choice of accessories Affaire d’Eau stayed close to the style of 1900. All accessories are originals and mainly the little nickel cupboard that once was used for drying towels adds a lot to the authentic feeling of this bathroom.

In an old building designed by the famous Dutch architect Berlage, this art deco bathroom in black and white style was designed. The bath originates from an old bathing facility in the centre of France; the beautiful sink on a pedestal with geometric decoration comes from an apartment in Paris. The original light fixtures with opaline shades and the lovely shaving mirror above the sink add a lot to the atmosphere of this bathroom and the result is a bathroom that is not only timeless but also meets the architecture of the building.
