Antique Fountain Tournesol
An exceptional and rare wall fountain dating from the late 19th century, most likely produced by the famous tile and sanitary factory Sarreguemines. The same decoration appears in their catalogue around 1900.
The fountain is shaped like a scallop shell (coquille), with a deeply scalloped exterior and a tall backplate, and is decorated with a unique Tournesol (sunflower) motif. Such decorated fountains were available as special orders at the time, and this particular pattern is extremely rare. The decoration was applied using transfers on the unglazed surface, then hand-coloured, making every example slightly different in tint and nuance. Afterwards, the entire piece was glazed and fired again, resulting in the distinctive finish.
For its age, this piece is in outstanding condition. It has two soap dishes placed in the corners of the basin. Both of them fully intact. The fountain is intended for use with a wall-mounted tap – either a simple cold-water spout or, if desired, combined with a small wall-mounted mixer tap from our collection.
Measurements: approx. 60 cm high x 41 cm wide x 46 cm deep (from wall)
