Antique Washbasin Societe Maastricht
A beautiful antique washbasin by Société Céramique Maastricht, finished in a soft ivory tone and preserved in excellent condition. This piece still bears its original factory stamp with lion emblem and “Made in Holland” mark, as well as the original numbering — an important detail for collectors of authentic Dutch sanitary ware.
Dating
Based on the stamp “Société Céramique Maastricht – Made in Holland,” this washbasin can be dated to approximately 1920–1940. During this period Société Céramique used this circular mark, prior to the later merger with De Sphinx (1958). The restrained design and practical layout clearly reflect the interwar era.
Design & Character
This washbasin perfectly illustrates the Dutch preference for simplicity and functionality:
-
Clean, architectural lines
-
Integrated soap dishes on both sides
-
Subtle overflow detail
-
Calm and balanced proportions
Unlike more decorative continental models, Dutch design from this period favoured understated elegance and practical use. Its compact size and timeless shape make it suitable for both historic and contemporary interiors.
Installation
This model is intended to be combined with a wall-mounted tap. The tap should be installed through the wall above the basin, enhancing the clean lines and preserving its authentic character.
Ideal for:
-
Period properties
-
1920s–1930s interiors
-
Restored townhouses
-
Eclectic or minimal interiors with historical depth
An authentic piece of Dutch ceramic heritage, increasingly rare in this condition and with its original factory mark intact.
