Antique Wall Fountain 'Poste d'Eau Fleuri' — Polychrome Floral Décor with French Cockerel Mark
A truly rare and beautiful antique ceramic wall fountain dating from the late nineteenth or early twentieth century. The cream-coloured back panel is lavishly decorated with a floral motif in soft pastel tones — rose, terracotta and ochre — applied using the classic transfer technique: outlines printed onto the ceramic and then hand-coloured. This polychrome floral decoration is exceptionally uncommon; the major European sanitary manufacturers around 1900 typically produced single-colour patterns in blue or green. A piece with such a richly coloured, multicoloured blossom design is a genuine find.
Inside the basin, the factory mark is clearly visible: the French Cockerel, the trademark of a renowned French ceramics manufacturer. The basin features elegant relief lines and a beautifully sculpted shell motif on the exterior. The fountain is fitted for a wall-mounted tap and would look wonderful in a classic or country-style bathroom, a cloakroom, or an entrance hall.
