Rare Double Pedestal Washbasin in Pistachio Green — Porcher, c. 1955–1958
An exceptionally fine piece from the late 1950s: a double washbasin on a central ceramic pedestal in pistachio green glaze, made by Porcher — one of France's foremost sanitaryware manufacturers of the period. The Porcher name remains legible on the overflow system, a rare mark of origin. The colour is that distinctive pastel green so characteristic of the Mid-Century palette: not mint, not jade, but the dreamy pistachio tone that fifties designers embraced with such conviction and that collectors seek out so eagerly today.
What further sets this piece apart is the refined decorative moulding that runs along the front edge of the basin apron and down the pedestal — a quietly architectural detail that lends the design depth and presence. Condition is outstanding: the enamel is pristine, the heavy ceramic pedestal is intact, and the two tap holes are configured for a bridge mixer tap (not included). A washbasin that functions not merely as a fixture, but as a statement in any classic or retro-chic bathroom.
