Antique French Opaline Towel Rack
A graceful antique towel rack from France, made around 1900, fitted with a bar of opaline — the milky, opaque glass so beloved in turn-of-the-century bathrooms and bedrooms for its fresh, hygienic appearance. The two stylised wall brackets are nickel-plated, though they've clearly lived a little: here and there the brass beneath softly shows through the nickel, a mark of decades of faithful service and just the kind of patina that gives an object character.
The nickel-plated brass brackets are compact and elegantly shaped, with a subtle decorative cut-out typical of the Belle Époque. This small rack asks for little wall space, making it especially refined above a washbasin, beside a mirrored cabinet, or in a country-style bedroom where a touch of French character is welcome.
