Mid-Century side table in the manner of Fornasetti with Paris street map — 1950s
A Mid-Century side table in the manner of Fornasetti, made in the 1950s, with both tiers decorated with a Paris street map. The most charming detail: the two tiers don't show the same fragment of the city but two distinct halves — the Rive Gauche and the Rive Droite. A playful, thoughtful design we rarely come across.
The style is a clear nod to Piero Fornasetti, the Italian master whose surreal-architectural furniture and trays became iconic in this period. The table stands on four slim, tapered legs with neat brass feet and a fine dark trim around each tier. A subtle paler patch is visible on the top tier; otherwise the piece is in lovely condition. A characterful object that brings a Parisian accent to a salon, hallway or reading nook.
